1 Lubbock restaurant opens, 2 close in May business updates

May brought a number of new service-based businesses and restaurants to the Lubbock area. Here’s a look at what opened, closed and confirmed upcoming locations for the Hub City.

In 2023, May saw 15 business announcements reported by the A-J. May 2024 saw at least 17. This year’s May appeared to continue the trend of fewer announcements compared to 2024 and 2023.

Which new restaurants, businesses opened or moved in May 2025?

PostNet begins shipping services locally

What: The shop offers printing, shipping, packaging, graphic design and other business solutions. It also has a dog on staff to greet customers.

When: May 16.

Where:  6819 82nd St., Suite 100.

Soccer Pups youth program begins teaching for first season

What: Soccer Pups is a youth soccer program for players ages 3-9 years old. The program is focused on teaching social skills, motor skills and teamwork.

When: May 10.

Where: 5217 82nd, Suite 121.

Texas Homeland Security & Sound open new showroom

What: This home and business security company opened a new showroom.

When: May 1.

Where: 7415 Marsha Sharp Freeway, Unit 6.

Thai Pattaya restaurant, owner’s dream, opens to serve Laos, Thai cuisine

What: Thai Pattaya, which was previously located in Levelland, is a locally owned restaurant serving Laotian and Thai cuisine.

When: May 3.

Where: 4809 34th St., which previously was a vape shop until it closed in the summer of 2024. The location may be better known as the former Masiso, which closed in 2023. 

What: This new Jiu Jitsu school offers group and private lessons, with age groups starting around 3 years old and up through adults.

When: May 17.

Where: 13209 Frankford Ave., Suite #252.

Tractor Supply plants 5th location with garden center, pet wash station

What: Tractor Supply continued expanding in Lubbock in May, with the grand opening of its fifth store. The new location sells the usual wares, along with an expansive array of gardening items and offering a space for people to wash their pets. The pet station is stocked with “elevated wash bays, grooming tables, specialty shampoos, use of brushes, combs and towels as well as a waterproof apron and professional dryer, all for just $9.99,” according to a company release.

When: May 29.

Here’s which businesses, restaurants closed in May 2025

Bone Daddy’s – may be temporary

What: This barbecue restaurant had a sign posted that the locks had been changed by the property owner. Google shows the business as temporarily closed, and the website has the location listed, but calls to the restaurant did not go through.

When: Early May.

Where: 3008 West Loop 289.

Los Victor’s Mexican Food closes without announcement

What: The vibrantly-painted restaurant opened in a former Taco Bell on Jan. 19, 2024 with Mexican-California fusion. About 16 months later, the restaurant appeared shut down and had been removed from the company’s website.

When: Early May.

Where: 4928 50th St.

Augment wellness studio to offer physical therapy services, including hydrotherapy and compression

Confirmed: This new wellness studio plans to open soon. It will offer several services, including cold immersion hydrotherapy and PEMF, at 12011 Indiana Ave., #100.

Ringtail Ranch Lemur Rescue and Educational Center moving Central Texas for expansion

Moving soon: The animal rescue is expected to move to a 25-acre property at 1210 Parson Road in Mingus within the next few months. Ringtail Ranch is moving as it has outgrown its Lubbock location.

“There’s going to be a lot of people traveling through,” said Jeanna Treider, owner. “Now, the property that we bought gives us the ability to do more.”
